7 Law of Leanness

Most of us asked why there are some individuals who even eats too much does not gain even a single pound. On the other hand, there are some who almost did everything to shed those extra pounds seems to change nothing.

As I read the newsletter sent to me by Men’s Health it says that there seven basic laws of lean individual that prevents them from gaining extra pounds. Taking these simple rules will really shed those extra weights.

Rule #1 – Lean People Don’t Diet.
Preventing calories from getting into our system lowers strength, bone density and muscle mass. Muscle is considered to be the main factor in burning calories, so, by having diet, you can actually increase the tendency of gaining weight. According to some studies, chasing your diet actually increase your stress level raising your cortisol – a hormone that is link to weight gain.

Having 25 grams of fiber daily (equivalent to three servings of fruits and vegetables) can enhance burning of calories up to 30%.

Rule #2 – Lean People Don’t Go Fat-Free
Recent studies showed that those who took “low fat” diet could really increase the tendency of becoming overweight. In fact, fat does not make you fat; hence it is essential in managing some nutrients like fat-soluble vitamins (ADEK). Furthermore, “fat-free” foods are packed with sugars making you consume more calories leading you to consume unhealthy sweets. Fat, in deed helps you full and satisfied while fat-free foods will keep you returning back to fridge craving for more.

Rule #3 – Lean People Sit Down to Eat
Eating can actually make you leaner. Sacrificing can actually increase your tendency to get fat.
Studies showed that eating in a table having a full plate already can eat 35% less compared to the traditional “pass-on-the-serving-dish” style. Also, eating slowly can actually increase the level of two hormones that make you feel full.

Rule #4 – Lean People Know What They are Going to Eat Next
Knowing what to eat next can actually make your weight-loss program more successful compared to those who doesn’t know what to eat in case they feel hungry, according to Dutch researchers.

Rule #5 – Lean People Eat Protein
People who eats more protein are expected to lose weight that those who did not eat much protein. Having food rich in protein and low in processed starch (example, white bread) can be the effective tool for weight loss. How? Protein will work in two stages: (1) it will consume you more calories in digesting it, (2) you will stay full longer because your body will work harder to digest the protein.

Rule #6 – Lean People Move Around
Having NEATs (non-exercise activity thermogenesis) does not help you burn some calories but actually gives you some fun. Such simple activities like short bike ride, relaxed walking, playing with kids and even fishing does not only give you enjoyment but can burn you as much as 200 calories in few minutes.

Rule #7 – Lean People Watch Less TV
Studies showed that watching TV for less than two hours can divert yourself to other activities that can really help you lose weight. Researchers said that people who cuts their TV time into half burned extra calories per day. In addition, recent studies discovered that every hour in front of TV can actually lose 22 minutes of their lives.

Vanity Kit, Item #2: Masculine Wash

In connection with my previous post, here is my second vanity item, the MASCULINE WASH.

There are many brands sold in the market to take care of women’s private parts. How about men? Are they also entitled to have something that will take care of their private parts? My answer is a big YES! Soap and water are not enough to tell that they are clean down there.

This started one Sunday about a year ago. We were doing our grocery and we came into isle where ladies' intimate needs are located to buy some items for my wife. This guy is giving a trial sample of masculine wash, FRESHMAN. The merchandiser gave me 6 sachets.

I was satisfied with using Freshmen Masculine Wash. Not only with its scent but with other benefits you can get.

Having Tea Tree Oil as an active ingredient, Freshman thoroughly cleans unlike ordinary soaps, and helps eliminates and protects from germs that cause unwanted odor and itchiness. It also helps the immune system in the healing process of minor scrapes and wounds in men’s private area.

For women, a pH of 5.5 is required; Freshman has a balanced pH of 7.0 making it as gentle as pure water. Furthermore, it properly moisturizes the skin and gives a cool and refreshing feeling that lasts all day.

It comes in two variants, Regular and Freeze. I tried both but prefer the Freeze variant. The only difference between the two is that Freeze gives cooler feeling than the Regular.

You can try this by having a 5-ml sachet first which costs only about PhP9.00, when you are satisfied, you can opt for the regular size of 75-ml for about PhP90.00 only.

This could not be missed in my daily shower routine.

Thanks, Elev8 Trading and Marketing Corp ( the company behind this product) for this innovation ‘Cause men need to feel fresh, clean and cool too!

Disclaimer: This is not a paid review. I am just sharing my views about the product.

Herbal Plants: Malunggay (Horse Radish)

Homemade Malunggay Capsule

Malunggay or Horse radish (Moringa oleifera) is a popular plant because of its nutritional and health benefits and considered as “The Miracle Tree”. This plant grows in tropical countries and used mainly as vegetable in cooking.

Health Benefits

Malunggay helps in fighting malnutrition particularly in infants and breastfeeding mothers due to its nutritional contents. It is known to help increase milk flow of breastfeeding mothers. Furthermore, it is proven to contain vitamins like A (4 times as carrots), B and C (7 times as orange), and minerals such as calcium (twice as milk), iron and protein (4 tiems as milk). It is also found to contain high dosage of HDL (high-density-lipoprotein), a good source of  omega oils, antioxidants and amino acids.

Some studies showed that this plant contains anti-cancer properties and considered in the treatment of prostate and skin cancer. It is also found to have chemoprotective properties that strengthen cells and helps tolerate the effect of chemotherapy.

This miracle plant was also found to have antibiotic (antimicrobial and antibacterial) and antifungal properties while the seed was found to contain anti-inflammatory functions against rheumatism, arthritis and joint pains.

Supplements

It is awkward to eat malunggay daily just to get the benefits of the plant. There are many malunggay supplements available in the market but a little bit expensive.  I resulted to make my own malunggay supplement. I dried malunggay leaves (air dry), grind using bender, sieve thru strainer to remove stalks,  and encapsulate it in an empty gel capsule bought from Mercury Drug (42 cents a piece). Each capsule contains 250mg of pure dried malunggay leaves, enough to be a daily supplement.

I also used ground malunggay leaves in some of my cooking.

Kitchen Adventures: Boneless Gigi

Who says only bangus can be turned into boneless fish?

Last week, we went to market and bought galunggong. Because of its small size, I decided to make it boneless by removing the main bone. Yes, boneless Gigi.

I turned it into crispy but tender fried boneless GG. I just dredge it in a mixture of flour, corn starch, salt and pepper, seasoning and few amounts of ground dried oregano leaves.  It was served with toyo-mansi sauce and hot steamed rice.

Kitchen Adventures: Squash Pancake

Checking the ref yesterday for possible dish to cook, I saw the squash that has been there for almost two weeks. It was intended for okoy last Tuesday but I did not have too much time to prepare and some of the ingredients are not available that time.

Thinking of what to do with this veggie, I resulted to Squash Pancake. My son loves this one too.

You will need:
1 cup squash, boiled and mashed
1 tbsp. flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. cinnamon powder
2 tbsp. sugar
1 egg
Cooking oil for frying

All you need to do is to mix all the ingredients to create batter. Heat pan with few amounts of oil. Put about 2 tablespoons of the batter in the pan and flatten it to about half inch thick. Cook each side for about two to three minutes. Serve it plain or with garlic-mayo dip.

This recipe can be used by moms to trick their kids having hard time to eat veggies.
